The Red Hot Chili Peppers (RHCP) have engrained their own mix of funk, rap, punk, and rock into the global cultural psyche with their countless hits and multi-platinum albums. But after three decades and 11 albums deep in the game, how does a band this established and instantly recognizable sound fresh and new?
Well, the band decided not to go with their usual producer Rick Rubin ,the man who helped nurture the RHCP sound over the last 25 years; opting instead to enlist Brian “Danger Mouse” Burton.
The verdict: Adding “Danger Mouse” behind the boards doesn’t make that much difference, the band can’t help but sound like themselves, even when trying not to—after thirty plus years the band has simply perfected its sound. The Getaway is a straight up super chilled funk filled record we come to expect from the band.
