Introduction

Been wanting to review this game for a while. I have been playing it since about April, when it was free on XBOX Live. How can you beat the price of free? Looking around the price of the game it is sold for about $40.00. It was nice to download an old fashion platformer. I had heard about Rayman before, but never got around to playing it. This fifth installment of this series, is my first jab at the game.

Storyline and Gameplay

You play multitude of characters through the game. You get through levels, and then obtain some Lum, which is the game's currency. As you get through a level, you have to save teensies and get rewarded depending on how many teensies you rescue. There are 120 levels in all. I have played for months, and I am not sure that I am even close to being half done. There is no real order to the game. You just play the levels that you want to play and the more you play, the more levels get unlocked.

As you would expect the levels get more and more difficult as you advance. Remember, there is a lot of trial and errors here. If you want to master a level, it will take many many tries. You get unlimited lives, but some levels will take you 10 or 20 tries to get through them correctly.

The controls are pretty tight and are responsive. You only use about 3 buttons, Right Back button to run faster, A to Jump and X to attack. This game could have been played on an NES or a Genesis. It is also good for the younger crowd, especially if you have any children. It is non-violent, unless you consider minor cartoon violence an issue.

There are daily challenges which make the replay value of this game high. There are always new challenges and new awards to obtain. It is easy to forget these, but they are fun. When you are done a certain run, you can see your best run as a ghost at the same time, which I found cool.

Twitch Gameplay

The below is my Twitch Stream. It was not my best playthough and that is the point. Unlike playing those old school games, this game is the unknown. I can't just play through it, because I remember all the secrets and passageways. This game reminds me the days before the internet where you couldn't just go online and get all the cheats. You can do that, but that takes the fun of the discovery of the game.

Bottomline

This game is every bit as fun as any old platformer that you can remember. It will challenge you, but it is not too difficult as to make you want to quit. It is fun for the family as there is a CO-OP mode and it is not violent.

Even at full price this game is worth getting. You will always have a game to get back to if you want to play for 10 minutes and just play one little level. In today's gaming market, there are less and less of these types of games.

I strongly recommend this game. Play it and let me think how you liked or disliked it.

Rating: 9.5 Legends out of 10
