Revolution Saints is a new band made up of drummer Deen Castronovo (Journey), bassist Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees) and guitarist Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio). The album is made up of 12 to 15 songs depending on which version of the album you purchase.

Let me start by saying this, the debut album from Revolution Saints has all the elements of a winning combination that could make this talented power rock trio the next big thing. Revolution Saints have it all, the talent, the tunes and a good producer who knows how to bring out the best in this band.

Doug Aldrich is very talented guitar player and deserves to be a household name. He has the talent and a look that screams rock star. Drummer Deen Castronovo, is a good drummer and singer and this album showcases that in spades. Jack Blades has been a favourite of mine for years, he plays a mean bass, he can sing and he can write great melodic rock songs.

I do have some minor complaints about the band’s debut album however. First, there are too many ballades on this album that take away the momentum of the rock tracks, four in total. Perhaps replacing two of the ballades with a mid-temp or an acoustic track would have made for a better listening experience. Second, when you get a talented singer, bassist and song writer like Jack Blades in your band…. use him! That he is credited for singing and writing only one song on the entire album, is quite disappointing.

Lastly, and this is more of an observation than a complaint, Revolution Saints is a great band and I hate to compare but, drummer Deen Castronovo sounds eerily like Steve Perry of Journey. If that wasn’t enough, the current singer and guitarist of Journey (Arnel Pineda/ Neal Schon) makes a guest appearance on this album. I feel that this band has the talent to stand its own and shouldn’t be made to sound like a Journey tribute band.

Revolution Saints’ debut album is a well-played and produced album. For better or for worse this talented trio will be compared to Journey. My humble opinion is that if there is a second album, get Jack Blades to sing a few songs in order to avoid any more comparisons.
